Aurora Village Litigation - Represented a shopping center in effort by major tenant to enjoin construction of a new Nordstrom store.
Dick Balch Chevrolet Company v. Bank of California - Successful defense of the bank in a claim by plaintiff that the bank wrongfully demanded payment of a loan.
Construction
Skilling v. Selig - Defense of structural engineer in action for professional negligence involving the design and construction of Columbia Center. Claims in excess of $10.0 million.
Madden v. Port of Seattle - Represented defendant in claim alleging defective specifications relating to reinforcement of piling. Claims exceeded $3.0 million. After a six-week trial in state court, the jury rendered a verdict for the defendant.
Insurance Coverage
Hygrade v. Commercial Union - Represented plaintiff in a first party claim against insurance company for recovery under a fidelity bond for the dishonesty of an employee. A three-week jury trial resulted in a verdict of $1.5 million. Settled on appeal for $1.9 million.
Plaintiff's Personal Injury
Hambley v. Pere - Obtained summary judgment against the State of Washington on behalf of a student at Evergreen College who sustained serious closed head injury while a passenger in a van driven by a fellow student on a field trip. The case was settled for an amount in excess of $1.0 million.
Skugstad v. Pacific Erectors - Obtained a favorable damage award in a three week jury trial on behalf of an individual who suffered severe head injuries in a fall from a ladder.
Maritime
Weber v. Arctic Storm - Favorable defense verdict for a vessel owner in an action in Federal District Court by a crew member alleging brain damage. Plaintiff's settlement demand was $1.2 million.
Santarin v. F/V PERSEVERANCE - Defense of personal injury action against vessel owner for third degree burns over 75% of plaintiff's body suffered when he fell in a crab cooker. Plaintiff's claim was in excess of $3.0 million.
Transpacific v. Sunmar Shipping - Successful representation of ship owner in a collision case occurring in Canadian waters.
Golden Alaska v. Lake Union Drydock - Representation of vessel owner in a claim against a shipyard for a fire causing over $20 million in damages.
Product Liability
Brown v. Firestone - Defense of tire manufacturer in action brought by the families of two persons killed in head on collision. Plaintiffs claimed a defective tire caused the accident. After a three-week trial in state court, the jury returned a defense verdict.
